Hi there, I’m Minerva from Nerdy and Wordy! I am one of
the new bloggers joining Through Our Eyes and I will be sharing posts every
other Monday from here on out. This week’s post is an introduction to me. So,
who am I? I’m a teen blogger, writer, and aspiring author living in the US. As
is evidenced by the title of my blog, I am a huge nerd. What exactly are my
nerdy interests? Well, I could fill a book with the complete list, but I’ll
name a few:
I am a HUGE book nerd and am always reading something
or other. My favorite genres to read are Young Adult and Fantasy; and my
favorite books are Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the Bartimaeus trilogy.
However, I also love classics and historical fiction and will pretty much read
anything. Much of what I share on my blog is book reviews and my thoughts on
trends the YA genre in general. In fact, I started out solely as a book
blogger, but became bored with having such a limited range of topics to write
about and decided to expand my blog to include my other nerdy interests.
I also tend to write posts about music, which I have
very eclectic tastes in. I love everything from jazzy 40s music to Of Monsters
and Men to Florence and the Machine to Hamilton. However, if I had to pick a favorite
type of music, I would definitely say film scores; they are just so atmospheric
and lovely. My favorite composers are Joe Hisaishi, Hans Zimmer, and Dario
Marianelli.
I’m big on movies too; especially Hayao Miyazaki and
Studio Ghibli’s animated masterpieces. I also have an obsession with all
things superheroes that occasionally works its way into my posts. I really love
Agent Peggy Carter in particular; she is a wonderful character and has become a
truly inspirational figure for me, but I also like Captain America (steggy for
the win!), Batman, and Wonder Woman. When I blog about superheroes, it’s often
in relation to female representation and feminism. Which brings me to the fact
that yes, I am a feminist.
The belief that women and men should be treated
equally is a key part of who I am, and I frequently write posts about my
experiences as a feminist and what feminism means to me. I focus a lot, in both
my blog and my Twitter, on female empowerment. I have dozens of feminist
heroines- from fictional characters such as Peggy Carter and Wonder Woman to
awesome ladies in real-life such as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to kick-butt women of history such as Elizabeth I and Zenobia
of Palymrene (yes, I am a history nerd too!).
When I'm not reading or watching or listening to or fangirling about something or other, then I'm usually writing. Aside from reading, writing is my favorite thing in the world to do, and I have known since I was eight years old that I wanted to be a published author when I grew up. Right now, I am attempting to write my own novel, but I also have several more short-story/novel ideas that I like to mess around with and I write lots of essays as well.
