Expectations of That Famous Word Beginning With 'L'

Obviously, a 16 year old like me has very little experience in the world and my words won't make that much of a difference, but recently, it has really been bugging me how some people seem to have such unrealistic goals about what love is, what having a partner is and what being in a relationship means. I see numerous posts saying things like 'You touch my boyfriend, you speak to my boyfriend, you even look at my boyfriend and I will hurt you'. NO! What are you doing. Your 'boyfriend' has a life and can and should be able to speak to whoever he wants. Then, for some weird reason, you then think your partner is an idiot for being slightly overprotective because you are talking to a boy. What is that? That is not love. That is hiding someone away from the world because you think that he/she is only yours and no one else's. I just don't understand it.

Also, I fully understand the idea that you have goals, but don't make them unrealistic. Those posts saying "my boyfriend had better get me this new Pandora ring" is so silly. They are SO much money and maybe your boyfriend doesn't want to give you that ring. Shouldn't you be happy with the fact you have someone in your life, without expecting all these expensive gifts as well.

I am aiming this towards boyfriends because I have a boyfriend but it applies in any situation. You should expect things from love. It is okay to have goals but don't expect them. I'm not talking for everyone here. This is my opinion but I find it silly how many of my Facebook friends post things like that. Your partner is allowed to have friends who are the opposite sex, it isn't breaking a law and sometimes, friends of the opposite sex are the best friends.

Until next time,
Katie xx
