There's so many essentials posts for freshers and a lot have the same things in, like cooking utensils and bedding, but I wanted to share a few things that I count as my 'essentials' but are a little more novelty.

PLANTS!!

Ok so my room is full of plants and I love my cacti so obviously they are an essential for my uni room! I think that plants will just add a bit of life into my room and take away from the gross carpet and curtains. Adds a bit of personality too.

Novelty Decorations:

I love having little things in my room that are a bit novelty because it makes it feel personal and adds my personality. I think they are really fun to have around your room and they make conversation with any new flat mates. I've included things like my 'Pawnee Goddess' badge which is from my favourite TV series, Parks And Rec. Also things like posters or little statues; they just keep your room feeling personal, which is great if you get homesick.

Photos That Make You Laugh:

I see photos in everyones essentials but for my photos, I decided to print some funny/embarrassing ones because they put a smile on my face. I've got some ones from nights out, which have really funny memories or ones from holidays. I just think its fun to look on your photo wall and see the 'real' photos with real memories not always polished ones.

Blogging/Photo Backgrounds:

This one is for all the other bloggers out there; photo backgrounds are so essential. Obviously you can't decorate your room much so you can't give it that lovely, instagram aesthetic. I know in my room I have no white surfaces and I have green floors so this is essential. For my photo backgrounds I use either big pieces of card, wallpaper samples or scrapbook paper.
