Flat lays are perfect for instagram photos, makeup posts or general posts that are hard to think of a photo for. I've picked up a few tips along the way on how to get a good one.
1. Colour
I think flat lays work best when you have a lot of objects that have similar colours or the colours match well, for example a colour theme or a monochrome theme. You can add colour in by the products on a plain background or add different fabrics or objects in etc.
2. Picking Your Theme
I think it's important to think of the theme you want, for example all makeup or favourites or school posts etc. This will help you pick out your products and props. I like to add books and diaries into school posts and then more floral things into makeup posts because I think it goes with the theme.
3. Fabrics And Backgrounds
I think you can make flat lays more interesting by adding fabrics and backgrounds. I do this with clothes or wallpaper samples. It's so easy to do but it adds extra detail into the photo. My main background is a fake wooden wallpaper, I think it adds a more rustic vibe and adds more texture. It's also really easy to take anywhere without having to get a full blogger set up with really wood or marble.
4. Blue Tack!!
Flat lays can be so annoying when all your products start rolling about so the biggest tip I've found is to blue tack the products down, literally it saves so much time and annoyance.
What are your tips?
